TITLE: Import Duty Specialist
REPORTS TO: Imports Duty Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
LOCATION: San Diego

SUMMARY:

Responsible for the efficient execution of duty classification, harmonized code, Spanish language translation and other core documents to facilitate the export of PriceSmart merchandise.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process duties, harmonized codes and translation requests as necessary for the importing of PriceSmart merchandise with minimal turnaround time
  • Maintain up-to-date duty schedules and provide accurate reports on a regular basis
  • Work with PriceSmart Buying staff to ensure accurate and timely information transfer for duty classification requests
  • Responsible for determining the import tariff classification and Duties of new items and Harmonize codes by country
  • Providing duty rates and support to buyers
  • Entering harmonize codes in AS400 and PAT
  • Sign lines and fact tag items Translations (Spanish)
  • Harmonized codes yearly maintenance AS400 and PAT
  • Inputting CAFTA certificate information in to system
  • CAFTA rates per country
  • Providing in country documentation support (Copies of CAFTA certificates, MSDS, Product ingredient labels, composition ratio, Specification sheets and pictures)
  • Resolving and communicate harmonize codes and duties discrepancies
  • Updating Excel sheets reports (Cafta and Duty changes)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 1 year(s) experience Import Duties classification
  • Should have some knowledge/experience of international documentation
  • Must be able to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) oral and written fluency preferred
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent organizational/detail skills
  • Computer skills (MS Office) required Microsoft Excel, AS/400 preferred
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Customs and other government agency regulations a plus
  • Import/export experience with ocean carrier freight forwarder or customs agencies preferred
  • College degree preferred
  • AS400 experience a plus
